Laila’s Birthday

2008 film, otherwise known as Eid milad Laila, written and directed by Rashid Masharawi. Saw it yesterday, for the first time. Picking up a DVD at one time, and then putting aside for another time.

Film about a judge who ends up as a taxi driver, waiting for a judicial reappointment that doesn’t come. Seeing disorder on the streets, then losing his calm over chaos in the sky. All he wants to do is get through the day and return home, hopefully with a present, for his 7 year-old daughter’s birthday.

Superb performance by Mohammad Bakri, winner of the Best Actor award for this performance, at the Carthage Film Festival. Excellent soundtrack by Kaies Sellami.

I don’t go to checkpoints.

How did you spend your time in jail?
Smoking cigarettes.
