Fairness Aggregate

In terms of fairness as related to the actions of administrative tribunals: can’t ignore the experiences of the public, but can’t simply be an aggregate of those experiences.

Sentiments of Lorne Sossin, in session on administrative tribunal diversity, at the Osgoode 12th Annual National Forum on Administrative Law and Practice.

Who also referenced the sentiments of Senator Howard Wetston, in relation to his time at the Ontario Energy Board. Can’t measure tribunal effectiveness by its popularity.

Sossin: “We have to have our own North Star as to the public interest.”

Far from being a success, if everybody likes you.
