Hand Elevator

Was in an elevator, pressing floor buttons for others. Operator, of sorts. Then recalled the hand-controlled elevator at the Freiman’s department store. Operating until the mid-1970s, in my recollection.

There was one operating at the Kingsmill’s Department Store in London, Ontario:

Until it went out of business in 2014.

And where one could ride in Rhode Island:

All slow, and assured.
