Wrote about a deceased minister insisting at no eulogy at his funeral. Seemed odd.
Then attended a number of funerals where lots of laughter and tears in eulogies by family members. Then thought of funerals of my parents. Don’t remember anybody saying anything, other than the minister or priest. Checked with others–that’s right, you didn’t say anything; nobody did.
Guess it seemed that the sentiments were meant for more private times.
Or more quiet times.
Nobody had to ask or insist. It just was understood. Wasn’t going to happen.
Silence as ritual, without ritual.
