Hospital Slack

Visiting client in the hospital. “They seem to require two people to do the job badly,” she said.

Find when visiting a hospital that there seems to be a lot of social talk among staff. Next vacation. New car. New house. Creates sense of great slack, due to the amount of time engaged in social conversation. Also undercuts the sense of professionalism associated with what they do.

Organizational slack is considered to be beneficial to hospitals. Enables the hospital to respond to varying levels and intensities of demand.

I guess better to talk about boats than the private matters of patients, when slack times occur. Still would prefer to see them reading medical publications or researching medical-related issues, during paid slack times.

Or maybe just can’t buy the boat, so bothered.
