Peter Allen: Cause she didn’t want parades just passing by her

Baby cried the day the circus came to town
Cause she didn’t want parades just passing by her

And if you should fall
Remember
You almost had it all

Don’t Cry Out Loud“. Song co-written by Peter Allen and Carole Bayer Sager. Where lyrics need to be reread:

Baby cried the day the circus came to town
Cause she didn’t want parades just passing by her
So she painted on a smile
And took up with some clown
Then she danced without a net
Upon the wire
I know a lot about her
Cause you see
Baby is an awful lot like me

We don’t cry out loud
We keep it inside
We’ve learned how to hide our feelings
Fly high and proud
And if you should fall
Remember
You almost had it all

Baby saw that when they pulled the big top down
They left behind her dreams among the litter
And the different kind of love
She thought she’d found
It was nothing more
Than sawdust
And some glitter
But baby can’t be broken
Cause you see
She’s had the finest teacher
Me

I taught her

Don’t cry out loud
Just keep it inside
Learn how to hide your feelings
Fly high and proud
And if you should fall
Remember
You almost had it all

Saw him do this, at the Imperial Room in Toronto, 1981.

He did it like this:

(Around minute 46, closing the show)

Was starting as a business professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, 1992. He had died that previous summer. Played I Could Have Been A Sailor one night, early that fall. Album containing the song. Still one of the most perfect albums ever made. Couldn’t believe that he was dead.

Still can’t.
